The Office for the Urbanisations, led by Councillor Jeff Wiszniewski (PIPN – Partido Independiente por las Nacionalidades) and his team, are pleased to send you our third information update, giving you information on events and activities happening throughout San Fulgencio and the Urbanisations.

This edition includes a golf tournament, conversation classes, integration projects, emergency numbers, volunteers to work with teenagers, volunteer projects in other parts of Spain, an update on the Maroc Challenge, a change to work as an extra in a film, the Diamond Jubilee fiesta and more.

We hope you find it informative and encourage you to visit us in the Office on Calle Madrid, Urb Marina, or ring us on 966 443 002 if you have any further enquiries.

Film Extras

On the 3rd and 4th of May of this year, Marabel Verdú will be starring in the film Quince Años y Un Día with two days of the filming being here at the marketplace on the Urbanisation Marina.

They are looking for extras and will pay 30€ a day including all meals. The extras will need to be there from 8am until 8pm although will not be working all this time!!

It is a wonderful opportunity to be in a large production such as this. If you want to put your name down then please visit us in the office as soon as possible as places will go very quickly.

Golf Tournament

There will be a golf tournament taking place on the 1st of June at Alena Golf.

A coach will be leaving the Urbanisation at 08:45 and tee off will be at 10:00.

Price is 40€ which must be paid at the office here in Calle Madrid.

Up to 40 people will be taking part and prizes will be given out at the Diamond Jubilee Street Party on Sunday the 3rd of June.

Diamond Jubilee

We are planning a giant street party in Plaza Sierra Castilla on Sunday the 3rd of June to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

More information on the music and timetable will be published very soon.

Bring your own food and drink although obviously all the bars will have food and drink available. We are encouraging people to dress in costumes of the commonwealth to make it more of a party feel but of course this is optional.

Food for the Needy

After such a wonderful response to our campaign for food for the most needy of San Fulgencio, we are continuing to receive donations of non perishable items in the office on Calle Madrid.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed and we hope that the people continue to donate food to the office.

Conversation Classes

If you are interested in practising your Spanish, come into our office and put your name down as we are collating a list of both Spanish and English residents who wish to practise the other language.

As soon as we have enough people registered, we will be starting conversation groups.

Exchange students

We have been approached by several Spanish people in their twenties from surrounding areas who are interested in staying with an English family here in San Fulgencio for a week to practise their English conversation.

If you want any further details or indeed wish to register then please come into the office on Calle Madrid or phone us on 966443002.

Charity Football Match

In July there will be a charity football match against the San Fulgencio Police force on behalf of the cancer charity AECC at Torrevieja hospital. The Office for the Urbanisations will be working hard to support this very worthwhile cause and will give you more details as we know them.

Volunteer to work with kids

We realise that there are so many skilled people in San Fulgencio, people who have worked with teenagers and people who want to help the teenagers of this area. We are therefore putting together a database of volunteers who want to work with the teenagers of San Fulgencio. Once we have a group of volunteers we can start to work on youth projects.

If you are interested then please can you contact us on 966443002 or come into the office on Calle Madrid.

Volunteer Opportunities

SCI Service Civil International is an organisation that provides the opportunity for people of all ages to work on voluntary projects in many countries of the world.

We would like to target this at people between the ages of 18 and 30 but if anyone needs more information, please come into the office of the Urbanisations in Calle Madrid.

Maroc Challenge

As we mentioned in a previous mailshot, our Office for the Urbanisations supported the Maroc Challenge which has been reported on in the local British newspapers.

We would like to thank everyone who brought items to the office for the children and also include here a quote from Brian Hampshire of the La Marina Raiders who took part :

“May we take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for their sponsorship donations and time, your gifts made what we did possible to see the smiles and hear the laughter from both children and parents made the trip very special. The people were wonderful, the children were special and their countries beautiful... both of us thank you all once again.”

The Office for the Urbanisations would like to congratulate the La Marina Raiders on their wonderful achievement and wish them well in their future ventures.

Emergency number for your mobile

Many of you may have heard of ICE (in case of emergency) which enables first responders, such as paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, as well as hospital personnel, to contact the next of kin of the owner of a mobile phone to obtain important medical or support information (the phone must be unlocked and working).

This however is NOT the system for Spain.

In Spain the letters are Aa which refers to “Avisar a”. You must put into your phone “Aa” and then the name of the person who the emergency services must contact in case of an accident of any kind. You can put in “Aa1 name”, “Aa2 name” etc.

For example “Aa1 Steve Smith”, “Aa2 Joan Johnson” and then the name of this contact is found in the normal contact list on your mobile.

Working with Charities

1)         On Saturday the 5th of May, AJs Bar in the grey area of Urb Marina is holding a fun day from 3pm in aid of the needy of San Fulgencio. There will be singers, line dancers and so much more so please do support them.

2)         EMAUS children’s charity desperately need the following :

Automatic washing powder/liquid

Disposable razors for the boys

Paper hand towels

Toilet rolls

And obviously monetary donations.

If you can help with any of the above items or know of anyone who would like to raise money for them, then please contact us in the Office for the Urbanisations in Calle Madrid and we can put you in touch with the relevant people.

3)         Impact Charity are organising a sponsored walk which will start and finish at the Impact Charity shop on the 6th of May as part of the Bay Radio “Be Nice Day”.

After events include a Hog Roast and live music with "la concert band". This will all be taking place outside the Impact Charity Shop with other events to be included.

Funds to benefit EMAUS Elche home, plus Impact charity will purchase food for the needy in La Marina and 100% of entry fee and 25% of sponsorship to CARITAS
